State of the Union

Last night, President Obama gave his State of the Union address for 2012. He told us that we needed to stop cutting taxes for the wealthy, and that it is important to keep jobs here. The author could not find an actual script of the speech, and so is typing off of memory. One of his ideas was to stop outsourcing. He explained that we should not give tax cuts to companies that bring jobs to other countries, and instead give them to American companies. Thanks for Following!

Chip Kelly, on the beach or in the rain?

Late on Sunday night, there were suspicions that Chip Kelly may have coached his final game at Oregon. If rumors were true, he would be in Florida on the beach right now, coaching the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Rumors, thankfully, are not true. This morning, the sought-after coach said that he will be staying in Eugene despite of the interest that Tampa Bay has taken in him. Kelly said "I enjoyed meeting with the Glazer family and General Manager Mark Dominik but after numerous discussions, I concluded that I have some unfinished business to complete at the University of Oregon." Hopefully Chip will be with us for several more rose bowl wins, and maybe a couple super bowl's too.

A little girl is missing in the Clackamas river

he search resumed Monday morning for a young girl missing after falling into the Clackamas River near Austin Hot Springs. The girl - believed to be 6 or 7 years old - was reported missing by her father at around 4:15 p.m. Sunday, said Sgt. James Rhodes. He frantically ran downstream and tried to stay with his daughter as she was swept away, Rhodes said. The girl's family had gone up to the area for a play day in the snow. The family looked for her for about an hour, while trying to call for help on cell phones in the remote area. They finally reached authorities from a land line at the Ripplebrook Ranger Station about 25 miles east of Estacada, Rhodes said. The Clackamas River was running high, fast and cold following a winter storm that brought rain and snow to the region, Rhodes said. Riverbanks were covered with ice. He estimated the water temperature at just above freezing. The initial search included 35 volunteers and a military helicopter with thermal imaging equipment. The search continues today.

Are you meaner than a fifth grader?

Mitt Romney may prove to be more arrogant than we thought. He recently called senator Newt Gingrich a Washington insider lobbyist. Even so, we have nothing to fear. If that is the best insult that he can come up with, then he would lose "are you meaner than a fifth grader?" This has also resulted in Romney demanding 1.6 million dollars from Gingrich. More to follow. Thanks for following!

Say NOPA to SOPA!

Attention all Facebook, Google, Yahoo, any major internet site companies and especially YouTube users/lovers: DO NOT SUPPORT SOPA! SOPA is a bill that prevents internet piracy, but it will not work. Instead, it will hurt any and all major internet companies that have breaches that they cannot control. For instance, if you illegally download a Micheal Jackson song while SOPA is in effect, you will spend 5 years in federal prison, which is 1 more year than the man who killed him. In fact, the senator that wrote the bill will go to jail for 3 and a half years because of his own bill! SOPA and its counterpart, PIPA, may shut down YouTube and multiple other companies, causing a loss of hundreds, if not thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of jobs. DO NOT SUPPORT SOPA! Cruise shipwreck

Over the weekend, an Italian cruise ship crashed off the shore of an island. The captain was not paying attention, and accidentaly ran the ship aground. It hit rocks that were only around 100 feet offshore, and tipped on it's side. Passengers litterally had to climb straight up the tilted hallways. The lifeboats would have saved many people, but the lifeboats on the left side of the ship were underwater. They could not be used. At least 11 people have died, and 24 people are missing. The captain was arrested with manslaughter, and the company lost multiple millions, if not billions, of dollars.

South Carolina Primary

According to CNN, Mitt Romney will win the South Carolina primary. The real competition is for second and third place. They think that Ron Paul is going to be second, and that Jon Huntsman will have third. I will try to follow up on this. Thanks for following!

Iranian Hostages, Freed in an act of Mayhem?

"(CNN) -- U.S. sailors from a carrier strike group whose recent presence in the Persian Gulf drew the ire of Iranian military officials have rescued 13 of the Middle Eastern country's sailors from a hijacked fishing boat, a military spokesman said Friday. The destroyer USS Kidd came to the aid of the ship Thursday in the North Arabian sea, near the crucial Strait of Hormuz, according to the Navy" Recently, the United States Navy has done more than just take lives, they saved a few. Thirteen, to be exact. The Iranian fishermen were hijacked, and the Destroyer USS Kidd helped to fight off the invaders. Josh Schminky, a Navy Criminal Investigative Service agent aboard the Kidd said that the rescue prompted the captain to offer his "sincere gratitude". "He was afraid that without our help, they could have been there for months," says Schminky. The rescue Thursday came two days after Iran said the United States should not send any more warships into the Persian Gulf, which makes the author of this blog wonder if the violation of this statement could lead to millitary conflict in the near future. Brig. Gen. Ahmad Vahidi says, "Their presence does nothing but create mayhem, and we never wanted them to be present in the Persian Gulf". Even so, the USS Kidd sent a team out to pursue the modern day pirates, and they did not create mayhem. They captured 15 suspected pirates, a feat that cannot be called creating mayhem. Pirates hijacked the Al Molai 40 to 45 days ago, U.S. Naval Forces Central Command said in a statement. The crew was "held hostage, with limited rations and we believe were forced against their will to assist the pirates with other piracy operations," according to the statement. This sounds like a terrible experience, and we should all hope that the hostages make a quick recovery. Thanks for following!

More Romney, with a side of Santorum

"(CNN) - Mitt Romney's numbers in South Carolina are surging, and he now has a solid lead over his rivals for the Republican presidential nomination, according to a new survey of likely GOP primary voters in the Palmetto state." Mitt Romney is becoming more and more popular, and after his win in Iowa, his next target is South Carolina. The number of votes for him has shot up, as have the votes for former Sen. Rick Santorum. On the other side of the spectrum, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has lost much of his support. Whats Up will keep you up to date on the 2012, or @)!@ when you hold down the shift button, Presidential Election. Thanks for following!
